My Approach

Smart Home-Buyers Choose Our User Friendly & Educational Home Inspections

I specialize in historic and older homes. My goal is to give the best possible educational experience and to provide you with the knowledge you need to not only confidently purchase - but understand and maintain your home for years.

Your Home Has History

That’s why you love it. But it also has some quirks, and if you ask me, that’s a pretty lovable trait as well. You just have to know about it before it surprises you. Plan to attend your home inspection or other service to get the most out of your experience.

Understanding Your Next Steps

Whether it’s a pre-purchase inspection or an energy assessment of a home you’ve been in for a couple of years, my reports clearly organize the hierarchy of the areas of the property to focus on for improvements so that you can have clarity.

Hi, I’m Joe Wingenbach.

My story starts with the house my father and grandfather restored.

But, building science and mechanics have always been part of my life. My part time jobs in high school were for an electrician and a general contractor. When I was in graduate school, my wife and I meet rebuilding houses in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Now, my wife and I are restoring our own little piece of Winchester architecture.

My father was the first to discover the world of home inspection. He made it his career and taught me every step of the way. From him, I learned that the job of a home inspector is to teach people about the house that they are buying and put them in a position to make good decisions.

This is what Virginia Dwelling Home Inspection is all about.

Virginia Dwelling home inspections are unrushed, educational experiences that focus on drawing out as much information about a house as possible.

Whether you’re in Winchester, the Shenandoah Valley, Northern Virginia, or West Virginia, let us help you make your house your home.

Home Inspection

Our goal is to provide as much information about a house as possible, putting the power of our experience into the hands of our customers so they can make well-informed decisions during the buying process.

Home Review

A Home Review is for current homeowners. We have designed this program to uncover safety concerns, assess damage to the house and its mechanical systems, and prioritize repair work. We give priority to safety first, then comfort, and then aesthetics.

Energy Audit

Identifying and repairing or updating problem areas in your home can cut costs and increase your family’s comfort.

Residential Radon Testing

The EPA recommends testing for radon at each real estate transaction. This area of Virginia is designated as Level 1 for radon exposure.

Education

With experience as a classroom teacher, I am able to offer classes and seminars on the various systems at work in a home for either real estate professionals or homeowners.
