Our Story

Joe Wingenbach, ASHI – associate home inspector & Caroline Wingenbach, designer

We have always shared a passion for the history, architecture, and lifestyles that make living in Virginia unique.

In 2008 we met while rebuilding houses damaged by Hurricane Katrina, and quickly realized common interests in home repair, renovation, and remodeling. Caroline is from Richmond and Joe is from Winchester, but growing up in old homes and neighborhoods across the Commonwealth has given us a first hand knowledge of the nuances that make our humble corner of the country so special. With Caroline’s background in design and Joe’s in teaching and inspection, we have decided to combine our experiences and start our own business.

At Virginia Dwelling, we want to offer a way of thinking about home ownership that is style-driven and educational. We aim to help our clients make the most of their home’s potential: aesthetically, mechanically, and structurally. For most people, a home is the biggest investment they will make. Why not strive to make yours a place of beauty, safety, and security? We can help you gain a more proficient understanding of the systems at work in your house and how to make it more efficient in either the summer sun or the winter winds. At the same time, we can aid you in developing a style template that reflects the design and nuance of your surroundings but is also tailored to your individual interest.
